Grasses

Our grasses are mainly produced in either one or two litre pots. Availability is again varying upon season, although many are available all year around such as the very popular black grass (Ophiopogon planiscarpus nigrescens) available in pot sizes up to ten litre!

Carex Laxiculmus 'Bunny Blue

A neat, well-mannered sedge with silvery blue foliage that forms low-growing mounds. Perfect for a grass-like texture in the shady garden, but can take full sun if planted in rich, moist soil. In warmer zones it can be evergreen. Height: 30cm

Carex Morowii 'Ice Dance'

'Ice Dance' is a dense, spreading sedge grown for its white - edged foliage. This sedge looks good year round, even in winter. The early spring flowers are insignificant.    Likes Part shade and moist soil.
Height 15-30cm

Carex Oshimensis  'Evergold'

'Evergold' is an evergreen sedge that forms a clump.  The narrow arching leaves each with a central yellow stripe. Flower spikes, brown, inconspicuous. Good in sun or shade, moist, well-drained soil

Cortaderia Selloana

This is an perennial, evergreen Pampas grass forming a compact clump of narrow, arching dark green leaves to 45cm in length. Silky creamy-white plumes  on stems to 1.2m in height in late summer

Hakonechloa Macra 'Beni Kaze'

This Japanese forest grass slowly matures into a soft flowing mound. Rich green blades develop red on the tips in late summer becoming  a bright blend of deep red, burnt orange and deep gold.in autumn. Height: 45cm

Hakonechloa Macra 'Aureola'

'Aureola' is a neat, clump-forming deciduous grass with narrow, arching, green-striped, bright yellow leaves, often reddish-tinged in autumn and early winter. Flowers insignificant.
Height: 30cm

    Imperata Cylindrica 'Red Baron'

Blood-red spikes that fade to bright green at the base and become translucent with age. Imperata cylindrica is particularly effective planted with other grasses, or shown off in a container. Height 45cm

Millium Effusum 'Aureum' 

'Aureum' is a semi-evergreen perennial grass forming loose clumps of arching, soft yellow leaves, with nodding panicles of yellow flowers in early summer. Part shade, moist, well - drained soil. Height: 45cm

Miscanthus Sinensis 'Strictus'

'Strictus' is a compact, clump-forming deciduous grass with erect, rather spiky foliage cross-banded with yellow, and crinkly silver flowering plumes to 2m tall in mid autumn. Full sun, moist, well - drained soil.

Molinia Caerula 'Variegata'

'Variegata' is an herbaceous grass forming a compact clump of arching, boldly cream-striped, dark green leaves, with narrow purple flower panicles in summer. Height 60cm

Ophiopogon Planniscarpus 'Nigrescens'

Evergreen perennial forming dense tufts of arching, narrowly strap-shaped,black leaves 20-30cm in length. Racemes of small purplish flowers, followed by glossy black berries. Height: 15cm

Pennisetum 'Fireworks'

Pennisetum ‘Fireworks’ is the first variegated purple fountain grass. The midvein is the typical burgundy color and is flanked by hot pink margins. Produces beautiful red-burgundy foxtail flowers. Sun or shade, dry/medium soil

Stipa Gigantea

S. gigantea is a robust tufted evergreen grass with arching linear green leaves and large panicles of oat-like, long-awned purplish flowers which ripen to gold.

Stipa Tenuissima

S. tenuissima is a deciduous grass forming a compact upright tuft of thread-like leaves, with narrow, arching, feathery flowering panicles in summer.
